10 of the World’s Most Prohibited Places to Visit

Date:

Want to visit places connected to the military or places of important historical, archaeological or scientific significance?

This list of places are some of the most protected and secured areas in the world which also disallow anyone to visit.

You name it From Vatican Secret Archive to Area 51; these places are heavily guarded and prohibited public and rounded by around the clock.

10 – Club 33 of Disneyland, California, USA

club 33
Club 33 is a private club located in the heart of the New Orleans Square section of Disneyland. Officially maintained as a secret feature of the theme park, the entrance of the club is located next to the Blue Bayou Restaurant at “33 Royal Street” with the entrance recognizable by an ornate address plate with the number 33 engraved on it.

Club 33 members and their guests have exclusive access to the club, which is not open to the public. In addition to beer and wine, Club 33 has a full bar, although patrons must order directly from their server rather than the service bar. Club 33 is the only location within Disneyland to offer alcoholic beverages, although the park has a park-wide liquor license and has set up bars for private events.

Members receive complimentary access to both Disney parks whenever they are open plus early park admission several days each week. In addition members are entitled to complimentary valet parking at the Grand Californian Hotel and access to the Lilly Belle, the presidential car on the Disneyland Railroad. Club 33 members receive up to six Immediate Fastpasses when they insert their Club 33 membership card into any of the Fastpass kiosks and bypass the stand-by queue. Members are permitted to join the skipper in the wheelhouse of the Mark Twain and the engineers in the engine compartment of the steam trains.

Vatican Secret Archive, Vatican City

vatican city
The Vatican Secret Archives located in Vatican City, is the central repository for all of the acts promulgated by the Holy See. The Pope, having primal incumbency until death or resignation, owns the archives until the next appointed Papal successor.

The archives also contain the state papers, correspondence, papal account books, and many other documents which the church has accumulated over the centuries. In the 17th century, under the orders of Pope Paul V, the Secret Archives were separated from the Vatican Library, where scholars had some very limited access to them, and remained absolutely closed to outsiders until 1881, when Pope Leo XIII opened them to researchers, more than a thousand of whom now examine its documents each year.

The use of the word “secret” in the title “Vatican Secret Archives” does not denote the modern meaning of confidentiality. Its meaning is closer to that of the word “private”, indicating that the archives are the Pope’s personal property, not belonging to those of any particular department of the Roman Curia or the Holy See. The word “secret” was generally used in this sense as also reflected in phrases such as “secret servants”, “secret cupbearer”, “secret carver”, or “secretary”, much like an esteemed position of honor and regard comparable to a VIP.

Royal Air Force Menwith Hill, United Kingdom

raf menwith hill
Royal Air Force Menwith Hill is a Royal Air Force station near Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England which provides communications and intelligence support services to the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The site contains an extensive satellite ground station and is a communications intercept and missile warning site and has been described as the largest electronic monitoring station in the world.

RAF Menwith Hill is commanded by a Royal Air Force Officer, supported by an RAF element, whilst the majority of support services were provided by the United States Air Force, 421st Air Base Group until 2014.

The site acts as a ground station for a number of satellites operated by the US National Reconnaissance Office, on behalf of the US National Security Agency, with antennae contained in a large number of highly distinctive white radomes, and is alleged to be an element of the ECHELON system.

Pine Gap, Australia

ping gap
Pine Gap is a secretive facility nearly 20km south-west of Alice Springs which has been there since 1970. Run by both Australia and the United States, its official name is the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap, even though our government really hates to admit it exists.

Pine Gap is essentially a satellite tracking station, situated in the middle of nowhere because that makes it hard for other countries to intercept the signals emitted from within. It is thought that the US controls all of its spy satellites from Pine Gap, and that the US and Australia “listen to Asia” from the 14 antennae concealed beneath white domes at Pine Gap. Put it this way, those white domelike structures aren’t a cat boarding facility.

Bohemian Grove, California USA

bohemian grove

These paintings are estimated to be 17,300 years old. They primarily consist of images of large animals, most of which are known from fossil evidence to have lived in the area at the time.

In 1979, Lascaux was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list along with other prehistoric sites in the Vézère valley.

Room 39, Pyongyang, North Korea

room 39
Room 39 is a secretive Democratic People’s Republic of Korea government organization that seeks ways to maintain the foreign currency slush fund of North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un.

The organization holds as much as $5 billion in funds, and may be involved in illegal activities, such as counterfeiting $100 bills production of controlled substances (including the synthesis of methamphetamine and the conversion of morphine-containing opium into pure morphine salts, like heroin) and international insurance fraud.

Although the seclusion of the North Korean state makes it difficult to evaluate this kind of information, many claim that Room 39 is critical to Kim Jong-un’s continued power, enabling him to buy political support and to help fund North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.

Room 39 is believed to be located inside a ruling Workers’ Party building in Pyongyang, not far from Kim’s villa.

Metro 2, Moscow Russia

map of metro 2
Metro-2 in Moscow is the informal name for a purported secret underground metro system which parallels the public Moscow Metro. The system was supposedly built, or at least started, during the time of Joseph Stalin and was codenamed D-6 by the KGB. It is supposedly still operated by the Main Directorate of Special Programmes and Ministry of Defence.

The length of Metro-2 is rumoured to exceed that of the public Metro. It is said to have four lines, and to lie 50 to 200m deep. It is said to connect the Kremlin with the Federal Security Service (FSB) headquarters, the government airport at Vnukovo-2, and an underground town at Ramenki, in addition to other locations of national importance.

In 1994, the leader of an urban exploration group, the Diggers of the Underground Planet, claimed to have found an entrance to this underground system. The Metro-2 rumours have been dismissed by one source as “a parody excursion by public transport into the murky world of ‘intelligence'”. This source describes virtually all available information as “speculative, unsupported by documentation such as photographs. There are narratives told by people who said they helped build Metro-2, and urban spelunkers claim to have ‘seen’ Metro-2, but there are no explicit ‘firsthand’ accounts.”

Mezhgorye, Russia

mezhgorye
Mezhgorye is a closed town in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, located in the southern Ural Mountains near Mount Yamantau, about 200 kilometers southeast of Ufa, the capital of the republic, on the banks of the Maly Inser River. The suspicion of why it the town is closed may be connected rumoured as the location of the Russian’s “Dead Hand” nuclear missile site.

There were at least 2 battalions are permanently stationed there to keep any prying eyes around.

Area 51, Nevada USA

area 51
Area 51 is one of the most known secretive area and a remote detachments of Edwards Air Force Base. According to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the correct names for the Area 51 facility are the Nevada Test and Training Range and Groom Lake though the name Area 51 was used in a CIA document from the Vietnam War. Other names used for the facility include Dreamland, and nicknames Paradise Ranch, Home Base, Watertown, and Groom Lake. The Special use airspace around the field is referred to as Restricted Area 4808 North (R-4808N).

It is located in the southern portion of Nevada in the western United States, 134 km north-northwest of Las Vegas. Situated at its center, on the southern shore of Groom Lake, is a large military airfield. The base’s current primary purpose is publicly unknown; however, based on historical evidence, it most likely supports development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems.

The intense secrecy surrounding the base has made it the frequent subject of conspiracy theories and a central component to unidentified flying object (UFO) folklore. Although the base has never been declared a secret base, all research and occurrings in Area 51 are Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI). In July 2013, following a FOIA request filed in 2005, the Central Intelligence Agency publicly acknowledged the existence of the base for the first time by declassifying documents detailing the history and purpose of Area 51.
