Builders’ General Supply Company’s Jimmy Porcelli retires after 45 years

Date:

After 45 years of service, James “Jimmy” Porcelli retired from BGS on October 6, 2023.

A small ceremony was held at Builders’ General Supply Company’s headquarters in Little Silver, New Jersey, to recognize and thank Jimmy for his years of service.

Jimmy was the company’s longest-serving employee, second only to Builder Generals’ Chairman, Tim Shaheen, among the current roster of 170—an incredible feat of dedication and valor.

Jimmy’s leadership was demonstrated on a daily basis. He demonstrated humility, dependability, and loyalty. As a seasoned veteran with a proven work ethic, he’d provide guidance from previous learned experiences to others and newer employees. Customers looked to him for guidance and assistance. He was precise with his forklift, loading and unloading materials so that drivers could continue on to their next destination.

Tim Shaheen and his team surprised Jimmy with a gift that complemented his love of the outdoors. Jimmy, an avid bowhunter and outdoorsman, was awarded the No. 1 spot in “NJ Outstanding White-tailed Deer of All-Time” by the “Pope & Young Hunting Club,” a North American big game record keeping organization, in 2004. That is quite an accomplishment, and it exemplifies his unwavering dedication to his job and his love of the outdoors.

The Shaheen family and the BGS community wish Jimmy well in his retirement and thank him for his 45 years of service.

Builders’ General has been family-owned and operated since 1931, with seven locations in New Jersey’s Monmouth, Ocean, Middlesex, and Warren Counties.
