Builders FirstSource has released their Business Social Responsibility Report for 2023

Date:

Builders FirstSource, the top dealer on this year’s LBM 100 list, has released its 2023 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report, which highlights the company’s progress in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) in 2022.

The report provides an overview of the company’s actions and programs to increase transparency and sustainability throughout the organization for the benefit of its team members, stakeholders, and partners.

Highlights from the 2023 CSR report include:

Environment:

Baselines for Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions have been established. No later than 2025, the company aims to set short-, medium-, and long-term reduction targets for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

>90% of the wood used by the company comes from certified Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) vendors.

By using Builders FirstSource produced framing components instead of traditional framing methods, >1.3 million trees were saved in 2022.

Diversity:

WEBUILD, a new women-focused employee resource organization, was launched, and veteran hiring activities were increased. 99% of team members received diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) training.

The executive ethnic and racial diversity climbed to 13% in 2022, up from 5% in 2021.

Team Members & Community:

In 2022, we achieved a 22% annual reduction in our total recordable incident rate (TRIR), more than tripling our goal. The company has set a target of reducing our TRIR by 10% by 2023.

All team members receive extensive safety and on-the-job training.

In 2022, we will have donated more than $3.2 million to our local communities.

“In 2022, we took a step forward in our ambitions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase our use of sustainable materials, improve our safety performance, and foster a more diverse and inclusive culture, all while maintaining our industry-leading position as a preferred employer and supplier.” Our ESG programs attempt to address the issues most relevant to our stakeholders, and we look forward to continuing the conversation on these themes. We know that creating a sustainable future has its obstacles, but we are willing to face them as a team in order to support greener homebuilding and a more inclusive environment for all,” stated Dave Rush, CEO of Builders FirstSource.
