Viral: Prosecutor’s Big Reveal About Photo-Hiding Smartphone App

Date:

As if parenthood itself is not hard enough, peer pressure and advances in technology throw in a whole new set of challenges that parents have to deal with on a daily basis – especially if they have pre-teens and teenagers in the house!

This is probably one of the reasons why a prosecutor’s big reveal about a photo-hiding smartphone had swiftly gone viral and gained over 115,000 shares in less than 5 days after she posted it on Facebook.

Pamela Casey, district attorney for Blount County, Alabama in the US, shared the warning on her office’s Facebook page, Blount County District Attorney-41st Judicial Circuit.

The short clip explains to parents that there exists this phone app cleverly named as “Calculator%” which does not actually help kids do Math but helps them hide stuff they don’t want other people, especially their parents, to see.

Although everyone has the right to privacy, of course, it is alarming that such an app has the potential to let kids hide serious stuff from their parents. The sneaky app allows users to keep these items hidden and could only be retrieved using the correct pass code.

Casey invites parents to check their kids’ phones for the existence of this app. She gave parents the liberty to decide what to do should they discover the app on their children’s phone but pointed out wants to make sure everyone is up to date with what is happening in the lives of their own kids.

Easier said than done, I know, but at least parents are now aware such an app exists.

Does your child have this app– Calculator%? You need to know what this app really is for— and it isn't for adding numbers! Check out this new video (less than 2 minutes)!

Many of those who commented on Casey’s post thanked the prosecutor for taking the time to reveal and explain this sneaky smartphone app. After all, a lot of parents might be using smartphones but most are not adept with today’s fast-changing technology, especially involving apps that one could easily download off the web.

There are those who pointed out, however, that Calculator% has been around since 2012 and is not the only app that can be used to hide things that people want to stay hidden from sight yet it still pays to be informed.

For many parents, however, Casey’s warning is not really outdated and was just perfect for them.

Despite some people chiding Casey for the warning and pointing out that parents should not give their kids smartphones if they don’t trust them to use these wisely, many thanked the prosecutor – even cheekily saying the app is not limited to kids but could even be used by cheating partners to hide their double lives!

Meanwhile, there are also those who reacted that parents should give their children some semblance of privacy and not go through their phones, whether they had photo-hiding apps or not.
Well, what do you think?
